BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) -An emergency room nurse who has spent more than 13 years caring for patients at Baton Rouge General is now fighting a brain tumor, and his colleagues are rallying to support him.

Micah Jordan worked in the Baton Rouge General ER, where he became known for keeping his team’s spirits high during long hours and life-or-death situations.

“Laughter is the best medicine, and he comes in and makes everyone laugh. He’s a very positive person,” said Lexi Edmonston, a registered nurse with BRG’s ER.

A few months ago, severe headaches landed Jordan in his own ER. Doctors eventually discovered a brain tumor.

“It is a glioblastoma, it is confirmed,” said Edmonston. “So, he is doing radiation 5 days a week right now and chemo pills by mouth at this time.”

“It’s very shocking. It’s not something that any of us thought,” said Peyton McCarley, also an RN who works with Jordan.

Jordan is unable to work while he undergoes treatment. Fellow nurses Edmonston and McCarley have organized t-shirt sales, a GoFundMe, and a jambalaya lunch to help cover his medical bills.

“Micah is a great person. He’s a dad, he’s a coworker, he’s a friend, he’s all these things. He gives 12 hours of his life every shift to give back to the community, and he leaves his home life behind and just focuses on the people we care for. I think it would be really awesome for all those people who he cares for to come and care for him,” McCarley said.

The jambalaya plate sale will be Saturday, May 23, at noon by the ambulance bay outside the Baton Rouge General ER on Bluebonnet. Each plate is $10. His GoFundMe page can be found here: Micah Jordan GoFundMe
