Hot Wheels sharing box brings Cenla neighborhood together
Birthday gift for local boy turns into community exchange for toy cars
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A Hot Wheels sharing box in Alexandria is bringing neighbors together over tiny cars of every color, shape and decade.
The box, mounted on a post, was a birthday gift this year for a boy named Cohen. It is open to anyone in the community who wants to take part.
“It makes me feel happy that we are able to be a part of the community, and it’s been a shock to see how many people who have participated and shown love to our little box that we put in here for his birthday,” said Liza Foreman, Cohen’s mom. “This box is for anyone in the community that has a love for Hot Wheels, like Cohen does.”
The rule is simple: take one, trade one, or leave one. Foreman said the box has drawn participation from a range of visitors.
“My Hot Wheels are for girls and boys,” Cohen Hattaway said.
Foreman said finding specific cars can be difficult because store inventory changes often.
“Hot Wheels is constantly pushing out different cars,” Foreman said. “You might go to the store one week, and they’ll have a set, and then you go a couple weeks later and they have different cars. To be specific, for Cohen’s birthday party this year, he wanted a Mad Fast. I went to every store and could not find a Mad Fast. So I had to order one on Amazon.”
Foreman said she got the idea from a video on TikTok showing a similar box in another state.
“I was on my little nightly scrolling TikTok, and I had saw one in a different state that someone had had, and it was a woman bringing her son to a Hot Wheels box,” Foreman said. “Well, I thought it was a great idea, and so I sent it to Cohen’s grandma, and she made it happen, as she always does. And so now, we have this.”
The box is located at 4705 Whitechapel Boulevard in Alexandria.
