Louisiana teens shoot, kill each other in apparent drug deal gone wrong, sheriff says

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two people who were found shot inside a car in the 1900 block of Yorktowne Drive in LaPlace at around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Deputies were dispatched to the area after the sheriff’s office received a 911 call at about 2:30 p.m. reporting that a vehicle had struck a house on Yorktowne Drive. When deputies arrived, they found two males unresponsive inside a Toyota Camry, the driver and a front-seat passenger.
Both had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene by the St. John Parish coroner.
No one inside the house was injured. One person was inside the home at the time of the crash.

The driver was identified as Daniel Robles De Medina, 18, of LaPlace.

The passenger was identified as Gerard Garret, 17, of LaPlace.

Based on physical evidence found inside the vehicle and cellphone conversations between the two that were obtained through a search warrant, investigators determined that the driver and passenger shot each other during a dispute over an illegal narcotics deal.
Two guns were found inside the vehicle along with spent shell casings that matched the recovered firearms.
