BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - In a surprise twist to the ongoing search for a new permanent superintendent of East Baton Rouge Schools, a familiar name wants the job.

The most recent permanent superintendent, Dr. Sito Narcisse, has submitted a letter of interest. The news came Tuesday night, July 23.

Dr. Narcisse stepped down from the position in January 2024 after the school board voted not to renew his contract.

Read a statement from Dr. Narcisse below:

The East Baton Rouge School Board held a special meeting Tuesday night to reopen the application process for less than 24 hours before naming a new superintendent Wednesday night, July 24.

Since the application process has been reopened, a consulting firm has plans to call all previous applicants for the job. If officials can’t get in touch with the applicants, they will still be considered.

WAFB has already reported that East Baton Rouge Mayor Pro Tem Lamonte Cole is a name that continues to pop up in political circles as a likely choice for superintendent. Late Tuesday night, he confirmed that he intends to officially apply for the position.
