I-TEAM: Social media personality ‘Stalekracker’ reinstated as trooper after misconduct-related firing

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Louisiana State Police Commission approved a settlement between trooper Justin Chaisson and Louisiana State Police (LSP) related to allegations that he left the scene of a boat crash without calling for help in July of 2022.
At a commission meeting on January 11, an attorney representing LSP told commission members that it would be the “wisest course of action” to approve the settlement with Chiasson rather than risk taking the matter to court.
Chiasson was fired from LSP in January of 2023 after he allegedly left the scene of a boat crash without phoning for help. Another man was driving the boat at the time of the crash, but Chiasson and that man left the scene of the crash in a truck and were later stopped in Assumption Parish.
Chiasson was never criminally charged in connection with that situation, but LSP dismissed him for several policy violations related to the investigation into that incident.
Under the agreement, Chiasson’s firing is reversed. He instead has been hit with a suspension of 240 hours total for various policy violations including conduct unbecoming, conformance to laws, violation of employee responsibility, and violation of lawful orders.
LSP officials released a statement Friday afternoon confirming that the settlement had been reached, but still needed to be signed.
LSP officials added that Chiasson informed agency leaders that he intends to submit his request for retirement.
Outside of his role as a state trooper, Chaisson maintains a widely followed social media presence. He performs under the moniker “Stalekracker.”
A website tied to that account states that Stalekracker is a “TikTok Chef with 10+ million followers.”
