The return to the stage of a much-anticipated New Orleans icon didn't happen Sunday.
Several hours before Fats Domino was to be the headliner for the final day of Jazzfest, the festival announced to the crowds that he would not be able to do so.
Organizers wouldn't say why the 78-year-old hall-of-fame performer wouldn't play, but last week Domino canceled an autograph session for his latest album, 'Alive and Kickin', saying he wanted to rest up for Jazzfest.
Domino, who lost his home, his pianos and his gold and platinum records to Katrina, also missed a recent induction into the Delta Music Museum's Hall of Fame here in Louisiana.
