Scattered-to-likely daily rains through Sunday.

Today's Forecast

Coastal parishes could be dealing with a couple of daybreak showers but Friday morning starts off mainly-dry for the Red Stick under partly-to-mostly cloudy skies. Sunrise temperatures will be in the low to mid 70°s making for a muggy start to the day.  The First Alert Forecast has a few showers already popping in the area by lunchtime with a 50% to 60% coverage of showers and t-storms for Friday afternoon.  Highs will climb to 90° or more for most neighborhoods before the rains take a bite out of the afternoon heat.  Our forecast stays on the "wet" side through the weekend with rain chances posted at 60% or better for both Saturday and Sunday. Morning starts for both days will be mostly-dry with daybreak temperatures in the low to mid 70°s.  Afternoon highs will reach the upper 80°s to low 90°s around the region, depending on when the first rounds of rains arrive.  None of these next three days will be all-day washouts even though rains are likely for each afternoon.  We expect passing showers and t-storms each day with breaks in the rains through the afternoons. In fact, guidance suggests that rain totals for the three-day period will come in at 1.0" or less for most WAFB communities. While we cannot rule-out one or two strong-to-severe storms on any given day, widespread severe weather is not expected through the weekend.  In the tropics, we continue to watch Sub-Tropical Storm Ernesto, located over the north-central Atlantic.  Ernesto is expected to accelerate to the northeast and track over cooler waters during the next couple of days; that should bring a quick end to that tropical system.  Down in the tropical Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is highlighting an easterly wave with a 20% chance of development over the next two to five days has it heads towards the eastern Caribbean. Fortunately, environmental conditions ahead of the system are expected to be less-than-favorable for intensification as it approaches the Lesser Antilles.  -- Jay Grymes / WAFB First Alert Storm Team
