BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police have released details into the crash that started the traffic nightmare on Wednesday. Details reveal the driver of the car in the initial crash did not have a driver's license.

According to police, the crash happened around 3:40 a.m. on East I-10 at Essen Lane.

Police say a 2001 Honda Civic was traveling in the outside lane and crashed into an 18-wheeler. The driver of the Honda, Delmar Fernandez, 23, of Houston lost control of his car and hit the retaining walls which caused his car to flip and land on its roof.

The driver of a second 18-wheeler stopped in traffic for the first crash. The second 18-wheeler was rear-ended by a third 18-wheeler driven by Timothy Kennedy, 36, of Magnolia, MS. That crash caused damage to the cargo tanker that leaked the Isobutane onto the roadway.

Fernandez was issued a traffic citation for careless operation of a vehicle and driver's license required.  Kennedy was issued a traffic citation for following too close.
