LAFOURCHE, La. -- A man accused of beheading and dismembering his son was transported to a psychiatric hospital, according to a statement from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.

Jeremiah Wright was taken by authorities to a psychiatric hospital in Jackson, La. Saturday morning, according to the sheriff's office. The move comes after Judge John Leblanc had ordered Wright be remanded to the mental health facility after psychiatric reports showed he was not competent to stand trial.

Wright is charged with the first-degree murder of his seven-year-old son, Jori Lirette, on August 14, according to the sheriff's office.

"Leblanc suspended court proceedings on October 18 after finding by a preponderance of the evidence that Wright would have been unable to understand the nature of the proceedings and would have been incapable of assisting counsel in his defense," said a statement from the sheriff's office.
