Gov. Landry reacts to possible Rep. Letlow run for U.S. Senate
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - As talk grows louder about Congresswoman Julia Letlow potentially launching a run for the U.S. Senate, Governor Jeff Landry is weighing in.
The governor spoke about the matter during a groundbreaking event for a development in Baton Rouge Monday.
“I think that all of this shows that there is a lot of angst inside the people of this state when it comes to that Senate seat, and I think we just wait and see what Congresswoman Letlow says,” Governor Landry said.
The seat in question is currently occupied by Senator Bill Cassidy. He is running for another term and already has multiple challengers.
President Donald Trump stirred up talk about a possible Letlow run in a post on social media. He said she will have his endorsement if she decides to launch a bid for the U.S. Senate.

WAFB reached out to a spokesperson for the congresswoman for a response to President Trump’s potential endorsement. The spokesperson said more information is to come and pointed to a post she made on social media.
“I’m honored to have President Trump’s endorsement and trust,” Rep. Letlow wrote. “My mission is clear: to ensure the nation our children inherit is safer and stronger. The United States Senate seat belongs to the people of Louisiana because we deserve conservative leadership that will not waver.”
Some political insiders said an announcement from Rep. Letlow could come as soon as this week.
The New York Times reported that a campaign ad has already been filmed and is ready to go.
At least nine people have officially announced plans to run against Sen. Cassidy, including Louisiana State Senator Blake Miguez, Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming, and St. Tammany Parish Councilwoman Kathy Seiden.
The party primaries are set for April 18, while the general election is set for Nov. 3, 2026.
