Repairs begin on Bayou Grosse Tete Bridge following vessel collision

IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - The repair process is underway for the Bayou Grosse Tete Bridge after being damaged from a vessel collison on June 6.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced a preconstruction meeting was held on June 14, followed by a notice to proceed on June 15.
The contractor has deployed a work barge to the site and is currently working on removing all mechanical equipment and hydraulic lines from the pier, according to DOTD.
Officials said this phase of the repair project is expected to be finished by June 28.
After the equipment removal, the contractor will focus on repairing the pier itself, a task that is estimated to be complete in four to six months.
The bridge remains closed to vehicular traffic until further notice.
The Iberville Parish Government has opened a pedestrian ferry to assist the community. The operating hours for the pedestrian ferry are 5-9 a.m. and 3-8 p.m., seven days a week.
