Governor Kathleen Blanco, a life-long Democrat, says her greatest failure as governor was not switching to the Republican Party after Hurricane Katrina. In an interview with Gannett News reporter John Hill, Blanco says:

"When I look back at the storms, if I had the knowledge that I would be treated as a pariah by the national Republicans in office, I would have joined the Republican Party to save my state."

"Then I would have been hugged and kissed and lifted, and I would have been declared the best governor in this whole country."

Meanwhile, we're hearing it will likely be sometime next week before former U.S. Senator John Breaux makes his announcement about whether he'll run for governor.
