A highly decorated East Baton Rouge elementary principal has resigned, and now law enforcement is involved. WAFB Street Beat Reporter Greg Meriwether has been looking into exactly what information the investigators are trying to uncover.
Teachers at Greenbrier Elementary were some of the first to start asking questions concerning missing money. They say they were never sure where all of the money was going.
Principal Michael Comeau has now resigned after questions surfaced concerning the missing money, specifically fund-raising money at the school.
The East Baton Rouge school system has sent internal auditors to Greenbrier Elementary to try and find answers and find any missing money. Sources tell 9 News we are talking about many, many thousands of dollars missing from the school's funds.
Greenbrier Elementary School took in evacuees and received tons of supplies and donations following Hurricane Katrina.
EBR school officials and auditors interviewed several of the school's employees and asked questions concerning donations and also the fund-raising money. The school system officials tell 9 News they turned over their findings to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office for possible criminal prosecution.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff's sources report they have just received the case, and it is too early to tell what, if any, charges will be filed against Comeau.
