Air Filter

- Air Filter Function The job of the air filter is to clean the enormous amount of air used by the engine. It must filter out foreign matter that might otherwise get into the engine and cause wear. Most late model cars and light trucks use a replaceable dry paper filter element.

-Air Filter Inspection Remove the fasteners (wing nuts, bolts, or clamps) located on the top of the air cleaner assembly. Remove the cover and pull out the filter. Do not try to clean the filter by tapping it on a hard surface. This practice can damage the filter and reduce its ability to filter air.To determine if you need to replace the filter, hold it by the rim and shine a flashlight from the inside out. Rotate the filter completely around while shinning the light. If you cannot see the light through the filter replace it. Reinstall the filter, air cleaner cover, and fasteners.
