HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - A driver died in a single-car crash Wednesday evening in Tangipahoa Parish.
Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Joseph Cline, 58, of Hammond.
Troopers reported the wreck happened on LA 443 (Morris Road) near Old Vineyard Road in Hammond around 8:30 p.m.
Sr. Tpr. Dustin Dwight said the investigation so far shows Cline was driving a 2001 Saturn L30 southbound on Morris when the car crossed the center line into the northbound lane.
According to Dwight, Cline then overcorrected and went off the road, which caused the car to flip onto the driver's side. He added the car then hit a utility pole.
It has not yet been determined what caused the car to veer into the northbound lane.
Investigators said Cline suffered severe injuries, despite being properly buckled up. They added Cline was taken to North Oaks Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
As with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, blood samples were taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
