LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - Officials in the Acadiana area say residents are receiving calls that claim to be the Internal Revenue Service.
The caller allegedly tells victims that the IRS will arrest them for fraudulent information on their tax returns, according to information reported by KATC.
Officials claim the fake number to watch out for is 805-521-4229.
If you notice a call from that number, do not answer it and notify law enforcement.
The IRS will not call you demanding payment. The IRS always sends letters about problems with tax returns. The IRS will never call you demanding payment and threatening arrest.
If you want to know if there is really a problem with your taxes, the IRS recommends you hang up and call them at 800-829-1040.
