BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The man suspected of causing the death of a south Louisiana police officer is expected in court Thursday on unrelated charges.

Albert Franklin, 33, of Zachary, is accused of killing a Zachary police officer in the parking lot of a Walmart in Baker.

Thursday's court appearance is actually related to a separate case that was filed just days before the incident in which Franklin allegedly killed reserve officer Chris Lawton on March 12.

Franklin is charged with aggravated battery and illegal possession of a firearm for allegedly threatening to kill a man on March 2.
