MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) - Police in a south Louisiana community are urging residents to be aware of a potential scam in the area.

The Morgan City Police Department reported it has received information that bank customers are being targeted for a possible debit card scam.

Investigators said the victims are receiving a text message to call (985) 214-4084 to reactivate his/her debit card. They said banks usually do not request any information via text messages.

They urge anyone who receives a similar text message to call their bank with any questions regarding their account.

They added to please contact the Morgan City Police Department at (985) 380-4605 to report any suspicious activity.
