DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested eight people after dismembered human remains were found in a wooded area of the parish Sunday evening.
The Livingston Parish Coroner's office confirmed the victim was Michael Angelo Neufeld, 26, of Donaldsonville, who was reported missing by the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office on July 9.
A family member told WAFB a GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for funeral expenses.
Sheriff Jason Ard also confirms the Jeep Wrangler that deputies have been searching for in connection with this same case has been recovered by the Baton Rouge Police Department. Authorities said Neufeld was last seen driving the Jeep on July 2.
BRPD was alerted by a good Samaritan around 1:30 p.m. today off of Scenic Highway. They then conducted a traffic stop.
Anthony Hall and Latashia Williams were in the Jeep and charged with theft of a motor vehicle. It had been reported stolen.
It is not believed that those two people are a part of the murder. The Jeep was later released to the victim's family.
Investigators found evidence Sunday evening while serving a search warrant at a home in the 26000 block of Evelyn Drive near Denham Springs that led them to the wooded area off of Hood Road, south of Walker.
The house authorities searched on Evelyn Drive belongs to Robert Taylor, 46.
Taylor's neighbors told WAFB they were shocked that he was charged with accessory to second-degree murder. Taylor was also charged with possession of marijuana (first offense), possession of schedule IV CDS, possession of schedule III CDS, illegal carrying of weapons, obstruction of justice, unlawful disposal of remains, and three traffic violations.
Duane Bissell, 27, of Amite, was charged with simple burglary, resisting an officer, second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, unlawful disposal of remains, and mutilating, disinterring human remains.
Martin Morgan, 31, of Zachary, was charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of firearm/carry concealed weapon by a convicted felon, fugitive, second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and unlawful disposal of remains.
William Byars, 37, of Denham Springs, was charged with accessory to second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, illegal carrying of weapons, possession of marijuana under 14 grams, possession of schedule IV CDS, and possession of schedule III CDS.
Cheyenne Smith, 18, of Zachary, was charged with accessory to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Nancy Logarbo, 26, of Gonzales, was charged with accessory to second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, theft of a motor vehicle, and monetary instrument abuse.
Tony Kile, Jr., 27, of Denham Springs, was charged with accessory to second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and theft of a motor vehicle.
Ashton Hanchey, 28, of Zachary, was also arrested in connection with the case. It is unclear what charges Hanchey will face.
Sheriff Jason Ard says the case remains under investigation and more arrests are possible.
