HOUSTON, TX (WAFB) - Former LSU baseball star Alex Bregman has been named the American League Player of the Week.
The Houston Astros third baseman hit .464 last week including 13 hits, five doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored.
Bregman had a monster series against the Toronto Blue Jays, going 9-for-14 from the plate with five doubles, three home runs, five runs, and six RBI.
This season, he is hitting .277 with 27 doubles, one triple, 16 home runs, and 53 RBI.
Bregman played three seasons (2013, 2014, 2015) as the Tigers starting shortstop.
At LSU, he hit .337 with 56 doubles, 10 triples, 21 home runs, 148 RBI, 153 runs, and 66 stolen bases.
Houston selected Bregman with the second pick of the 2015 MLB Draft.
