SLIDELL, LA (WAFB) - As the phrase goes, you'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. But what about with a gas pump?

On Monday, a woman posted a video of an immense swarm of flies resting on a gas pump in Slidell, Louisiana. Her video has been shared over 10,000 times on Facebook as of Tuesday.

"OMG! My husband stopped to get gas and could not because of all the May Flies," Sandy Callegan Hickman wrote, who posted the video.

The sight could have been taken from a scene in a horror film.

But the manager at the Exxon gas station on Military Road said it's not uncommon to see herds of May Flies resting on the gas pump.

The lights from the gas station are likely the reason for attracting the insects. The influx of the flies usually occurs in the summertime during breeding season.

Although the insects are harmless, the sight of them in the video could give some viewers the heebie-jeebies.
