AMITE, LA (WAFB) - Two parishes experienced a major power outage Wednesday afternoon due to a transformer fire at an Entergy substation in Amite.
About 8,000 customers, mostly in Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes, were without power for a large portion of the afternoon. A few residents in Livingston Parish were also affected.

A company spokesman says the fire was in a transformer. Once the fire was fully extinguished, Entergy crews began assessing the damage and making the repairs. Entergy says as of 7:30 p.m., power has been restored to affected customers.
The issue only affected Entergy customers, not residents who get their power from Demco.
