BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Istrouma High School opened its doors Tuesday with all the bells and whistles, literally.
Principal Reginald Douglas held a ringing-of-the-bell ceremony Tuesday afternoon at Krispy Kreme donuts.
There will then be an all night "beating of the drums," which is part of a tradition dating back nearly 50 years.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, Dec. 14 for the beginning of the construction project.
"Just to see a revitalization of North Baton Rouge, but especially 70805 community, and to have us be able to open this school. Our board has done a great job and to be able to open the school again is about the most exciting thing I can think of right now," said Warren Drake, East Baton Rouge Superintendent, during the groundbreaking ceremony.
The first day of school for students is Wednesday, Aug. 9.
