Head-on collision leaves teen girl dead, younger sister seriously injured

BELLE ROSE, LA (WAFB) - A teenage girl was killed and her younger sister was injured in a crash Wednesday night, according to authorities.

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Sydny Landry, 15, of Belle Rose. The name of her 12-year-old sister who was taken to the hospital was not released.

Troopers said the crash happened on LA 1000 near LA 1002 in the Belle Rose area of Assumption Parish around 9:30 p.m.

According to Tpr. Jesse LaGrange with LSP, a woman used her truck to take her garbage to the highway and the two girls were sitting on the tailgate.

He added the woman parked her truck facing east in the westbound lane on LA 1000 and the driver of a truck headed westbound wasn't able to avoid colliding with the other truck.

Investigators said the head-on collision threw both girls out of the truck. They reported Landry was pronounced dead on the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner's Office. They added her sister was flown to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge by Acadian Air Med.

Authorities said they don't suspect any impairment in the crash. They stated both drivers submitted to breath tests and they found no sign of alcohol use.

They added the drivers were not injured.

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
