BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Firefighters were called out to a fire in the Garden District in Baton Rouge early Thursday morning that destroyed two houses and damaged two others.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened on Matilda Street near South 17th Street around 6 a.m. Officials said all of the houses were vacant.
Mark Miles with BRFD said two houses were fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. He added a third house was partially burned and the fourth had heat damage from the flames.
According to reports, it took firemen almost two hours to get the fire under control.
Miles stated two of the homes were a total loss and the third had heavy fire and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and is still being investigated.
