Man arrested in crash that shut down I-10 for 12 hours

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - On Wednesday, August 17, troopers from Louisiana State Police arrested Brandon Gonzales, 31, of Baton Rouge, in connection with a crash that occurred back on August 5 involving a flipped 18-wheeler. This accident caused I-10 E to be shutdown for approximately 12 hours.

On August 5, Gonzales was headed eastbound on I-10 east of Siegen Ln. in a stolen Ford Fusion. He then lost control of his vehicle and struck an 18-wheeler that was carrying isobutane, causing it to overturn. Gonzales then exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Gonzales' identity was unknown at the time of the crash, but LSP troopers were able to obtain surveillance footage from nearby businesses and were able to identify him. Troopers also received numerous tips identifying Gonzales. On August 10, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On August 17, Gonzales was located on LA 429 in Ascension Parish, where he was placed under arrest and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Jail. He is charged with hit and run, reckless operation, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce, driving under suspension for a prior DWI, illegal possession of stolen things, theft of a motor vehicle, negligent injuring, and switched license plate.
