BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A Baton Rouge man who was imprisoned in Iran while trying to bury his mother who was murdered last year has been released.

Hamed Ghassemi lived in Baton Rouge until late last year when a friend of his first told WAFB that he was missing. That is when he found out he was arrested.

Ghassemi traveled to Iran last year to bury his mother in her homeland.

Ghassemi's mother, Taherah Ghassemi, was shot to death in an alleged murder-for-hire plot that prosecutors say was ordered by her ex-husband and Ghassemi's father, Hamid Ghassemi.

While burying his mother, Hamed was arrested by authorities in Iran and jailed.

I was unclear what charges we was facing or if he would ever get back to the United States.

In a Facebook post Hamed wrote:

"A year ago today I laid to rest my beautiful mother. The pain and sorrow is not gone, but I live everyday for the wishes she had. It's only in hard times that a person finds themselves and their true friends. I love all of you and hope to see y'all soon."

We will continue to follow this case along the way.
