Kidnapping and standoff ends peacefully, suspect arrested

Police respond to possible kidnapping, man handcuffed and put in police car

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A kidnapping and standoff in Baton Rouge ended peacefully Thursday morning when the suspect surrendered to police.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Frederick Harris, 41, faces charges of second-degree kidnapping, domestic abuse battery, simple criminal damage to property and simple assault.

BRPD reported officers responded to a disturbance between a man and woman on Underwood Avenue, which is off North Foster Drive near Choctaw Drive, around 2:30 a.m.

Investigators said early reports indicated a man took a woman in a vehicle, possibly against her will, which was found on Longfellow Drive. They added the man and woman were inside a house at that location.

Police talked to the man using loud speakers and were able to get him to leave the house peacefully. He was taken into police custody around 7:45 a.m.

Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. with BRPD confirmed a woman also walked out of the house.
