HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - An arrest has been made in connection to a deadly hit and run crash that happened on May 11 in Hammond.
Troopers from Louisiana State Police arrested 37-year-old Vincent Young, of Natalbany, LA., in the hit and run death of 26-year-old Erin Gerhard.
Through thorough investigation, troopers were able to secure an arrest warrant for Young for Felony Hit and Run, Driving Under Suspension and No License Plate.
Young was booked into the Amite Jail on Wednesday.
The deadly crash happened on University Avenue west of US 51 near the Southeastern Louisiana University campus after 10 p.m. on May 11.
Gerhard was a former student of the university.
Tpr. Dustin Dwight said the initial investigation showed Gerhard was riding a skateboard in the road when he was hit by an unknown vehicle. He added the impact threw Gerhard into the other lane, where another vehicle hit him.
According to Dwight, both vehicles drove off after the crash.
Gerhard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.
The investigation is on-going and troopers are still seeking information about a light colored truck which may have been involved in the crash.
