BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on collision Monday morning, according to officials.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the crash happened on Florida Boulevard at North 17th Street around 7:30 a.m.
Investigators said Alfred Banks, 27, of Baton Rouge, will face charges of aggravated flight from an officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated criminal damage to property and negligent injury when he is released from the hospital. They added he also had active warrants from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Don Coppola with BRPD said the initial investigation showed officers tried to pull over a stolen car, but the driver fled instead. They added the car crossed three lanes of traffic and slammed head-on into another car headed in the opposite direction.
The name of the other driver not been released. Officials said Banks and the other driver are both listed in serious condition.
Possession of Schedule II (cocaine): A bill was filed in October 2015. He was released on bond and failed to appear in court in December 2015. A warrant was issued. Assigned to Judge Bonnie Jackson.
Possession of MDMA: A bill was filed in June 2015. He was scheduled to appear in court on this charge as well, but did not show up for court on this, either. He was out on bond. Assigned to Judge Bonnie Jackson.
Illegal carrying of weapons and resisting an office: A bill was filed in December 2014. He pleaded guilty a few days later. He was sentenced to 30 days for each count to run concurrent and was given credit for time served. He was arrested on October 29 and possibly walked out of the court a free man that same day. Judge Don Johnson presided over proceedings.
He also has a charge from 2006 for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The investigation into the car chase and crash is ongoing.
