EBRSO make an arrest in Starboard Ave shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Department has arrested a man in connection with a Friday night shooting that left one man dead.

Deputies arrested 29-year-old Ronald Joseph Jr. early Sunday morning in connection to the murder of 33-year-old Charles Barney.

The shooting happened at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of Starboard Avenue.

According to witnesses, Joseph and Barney got into a verbal altercation after Barney confronted Joseph about selling drugs in front of his apartment complex. The argument escalated and Joseph allegedly shot Barney hitting him once and killing him.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Joseph and arrested him Sunday morning at an address on Starboard Ave.

Joseph has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he has been charged with second degree murder and the illegal use of a weapon.

Bond for Joseph has not yet been set.
