BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Young engineers were able to show their skills at an event challenging them to explore solutions to a big problem in Louisiana.

Engineer IT 2015 was held at Lee High Magnet School on Thursday. It was sponsored by Louisiana Women in Technology and the Foundation for EBR School System.

Students were challenged to come up with a solution to curb the number of invasive species in Louisiana. Organizers say the goal of the event is to increase student interest in STEM programs and preparing them for a STEM workforce.

Students were able to partake in the opportunity to address the challenge, and gain insight into working as a person employed in a STEM field would.
