BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge grand jury has indicted a man accused of shooting and killing a woman on charges of second-degree murder.
Elton Dontailss Gaines III, 23, was arrested in June for the murder of 21-year-old Donlisha Patterson.
Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Department say shots were fired in the air from a dark-colored vehicle, in front of a house were a large party was being held on E. Upland around 2:15 a.m. on June 21.
According to Gaines' arrest warrant, he was standing in front of the house and began firing shots at the vehicle. As the vehicle drove away, Gaines is accused of firing more shots in the direction of the vehicle.
At the same time of the shooting, 21-year-old Donisha Patterson was riding in a vehicle near the area where Gaines was firing shots.
Detectives say Patterson and the vehicle she was riding in were not the intended targets of the shooting.
