LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The man accused of brutally attacking his pregnant wife and killing their unborn child has pleaded guilty.
Jeffrey Reynolds, 34, was arrested in 2013 on charges of attempted manslaughter and first degree feticide. He has been sentenced to 20 years, which will be served concurrently. District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said he must serve 85 percent of his sentence because it was a crime of violence.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said Reynolds attacked his wife, Paula, 28, with a kitchen knife at their Walker home on Oct. 23, 2012. Paula was seven and a half months pregnant with their son, who Reynolds cut out with a paring knife. Reynolds also cut his wife's throat, chest and abdomen during the attack.
Reynolds was under the influence of synthetic marijuana during the attack, according to medical reports.
Reynolds' wife accepted the plea before it was entered. Her father said he wishes Reynolds had gotten more time.
"I believe 30 years would have been a lot better," said Donald Agnew, the victim's father. "It's something she's going to have to live with for the rest of her life. She's got scars she's going to have to look at every day. She's got the remembrance of the baby that he killed."
