LPSO arrests two for allegedly stealing from hearing-impaired couple
DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Deputies in Livingston Parish have arrested two men and charged them with felony theft, for allegedly stealing a utility trailer and lawn equipment from a hearing-impaired couple.
Kurt Hoffman and Bobby Wall were booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Wednesday.
Sheriff Jason Ard said near the end of August, the duo drove into the Rolling Meadow subdivision in Denham Springs and hooked up the trailer to their truck.
The couple was home at the time, but did not become aware of the missing equipment until their daughter came home. A neighbor heard about what happened and, after looking through his home surveillance, found the trailer leaving the neighborhood.
"We believe they're connected to several other same type of thefts in that area. Stealing some trailers, couple box trailers stolen, other lawn mowers," said Ard.
LPSO placed still shots from the neighbors surveillance on their Facebook page, and hours later, they had a tip.
Ard said it's not the first time social media has helped them solve a crime when they've had no evidence.
"We've actually solved an armed robbery case which happened a year or so ago," said Ard. "Put some stuff on social media and within two, three hours had him in cuffs. That quick."
Deputies did recover the couples stolen equipment.
