Police arrest suspected drunk driver after crash that sent several to the hospital
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said a suspected drunk driver went through an intersection and caused a crash that sent several people to the hospital Monday night.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Link Jacques, 23, is charged with DWI (3rd offense), negligent vehicular injuring, reckless operation, driving under suspension and fugitive from East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. His bond was set at $30,000, but he is being held as a fugitive from justice.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Burbank Drive and West Lee Drive around 10 p.m.
According to the probable cause report, Jacques did not stop for the red light at the intersection. The crash sent him and two other people to the hospital. Information about their injuries was not released.
Investigators reported they could smell alcohol on Jacques, open alcohol containers were found on the floorboard of his SUV and the passengers told police he had been drinking.
Authorities said a sample of his blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. They added he admitted to drinking prior to the crash.
He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison after being released from the hospital.
The report stated his other DWI charges were on Aug. 17, 2011 and July 16, 2012.
