BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities say a victim was justified in shooting and killing a would-be armed robber early Monday morning, and the shooter will not be charged with a crime.

Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office say 22-year-old Greg Frazier, of Baton Rouge, walked up to a man and asked for a lighter. When the man reached into his pocket, Frazier allegedly pointed a gun at the person, demanding his possessions. That is when the victim of a would-be armed robber pulled his gun out of his pocket and shot Frazier.

Frazier was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives said the shooting happened on Azalea Park Avenue, which is not far from the intersection of Old Hammond Highway and South Flannery Road, around 1:30 a.m.

Deputies believe Frazier was in a stolen vehicle at the time of the attempted armed robbery, which was found at the scene of the crime. He is suspected to be involved with other crimes, but they are currently under investigation.

The shooter will not be charged.
