BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Have you ever wondered why you have to take off shoes, belts, jackets, remove fluids, laptops at airport security gates? "I'm no threat to the country," you grumble to yourself. Well, this week the Transportation Security Administration and Baton Rouge Metro Airport unveiled new Pre-Check status for our flights out of Red Stick.
Sari Koshetz, spokesperson for TSA, said there are already 30,000 pre-checked travelers in Louisiana and 3,000 are signed up so far in Baton Rouge. She emphasizes that you must be flying on certain participating airlines.
The ones signed up for the express security check program are Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America. Koshetz also points out that a special "Pre-Check" line will only be used during high-traffic times when lines are long at the security gates.
She displayed a boarding pass to show how Pre-Checked travelers will be recognized. Pointing to the top of the boarding pass, Koshetz said "It will actually say TSA pre-checked but as a security feature, it's also embedded in the bar-code so no one can create a boarding pass and act like they've been pre-checked that day."
If you're a U.S. citizen and a lawful permanent resident, you may apply at Baton Rouge Metro Airport's TSA office or a special TSA facility on Bluebonnet.
Anthony Marino the Metro Airport's director says this convenience will be greatly appreciated with the business travelers who use Baton Rouge Metro for quick transit to airports across the country.
