BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Several business groups have joined forces to find a solution to the problem of the regular traffic issues around the Metro area.
The new coalition will be named CRISIS, short for Capital Region Industry for Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions. It was assembled by the leaders from the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, the Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance and the Center for Planning Excellence.
They along with representatives from 16 business partners from five parishes make up the coalition. Those businesses include Baton Rouge General, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge, L'Auberge Baton Rouge and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center,
As one of the partners explains, it is hard to plan for growth five to ten years down the line when Baton Rouge is already busting at the seems with traffic.
"We're in the distribution business, we have trucks leaving here everyday," said Hugh Raetzsch, President and CEO of Lyons Specialty Company. "I've got trucks that are on tight schedules to make deliveries. I've got trucks that only have a certain number of hours out there on the road. It's very hard to plan for a three-hour delay anywhere."
CRISIS is not proposing a new study. They are going to look at data from previous studies to come up with real solutions.
