Equal pay and tuition set for discussion in session

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The issue of equal pay will be discussed in the Labor Committee at the Louisiana State Capitol on Wednesday.

HB 87, authored by Rep. Barbara Norton, D-Shreveport, provides equal pay for women. Legislators in the Labor Committee will also look at HB 182, which was filed by Rep. Kenny Cox, D-Natchitoches. It provides for equal pay regardless of gender.

HB 677, authored by Rep. Marcus Hunter, D-Monroe, takes up the matter of the minimum wage.

Members of the Education Committee will get together to talk about post-graduate student tuition at public colleges and universities with HB 168, which was filed by Rep. Steve Carter, R-Baton Rouge.

Later in the afternoon, there will be a rally by Southern University students, faculty, administrators and legislators to save higher education in the budget crisis.
