BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Dow Chemical says that flaring at its Plaquemine plant on Friday night is intentional, and that it is a safety measure. Dow's statement is below.
Dow currently has flaring activity taking place at its facility in Plaquemine. Flaring is the controlled and effective burn of industrial gases and is an essential safety measure. Burning converts the gases into two common substances: carbon dioxide and water vapor. We regret any inconvenience to the community around us, and are working to minimize the flaring.
The flaring started around 8 p.m. and was highly visible from downtown Baton Rouge.
