BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge District Attorney revealed Tuesday that his office along with other law enforcement agencies actually broke up a few organized crime gangs in Baton Rouge recently.
District Attorney Hillar Moore presented his annual report at a luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge at Café Américain. He said in addition to getting multiple gangs off the streets, they have noticed the number of murders going down.
"Since 2013 we have reduced homicides by 20 each year from a high of 84 in 2012," said Moore. "This means in the last two years, forty young men have not been killed and another 40 young men have not been incarcerated for the rest of their lives."
Moore said thanks to funds from the Baton Rouge Metro Council and local businesses for the BRAVE program they've not only been able to reduce murders, but they've also seen a reduction in overall crime as well.
