Smoke detector allowed woman to escape house fire

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Officials with the Baton Rouge Fire Department say a smoke detector alarm allowed a woman to escape a house fire Monday night.
The fire started just after 8 p.m. in the 2200 block of Hiawatha Ave. Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire coming from the front of the house.
Fire reports say the cause of the fire is undetermined, but foul play is not expected. The fire started in the front bedroom.
It took firefighters about 13 minutes to extinguish the fire.
Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the residents. There were no injuries reported in the fire.
