ST. FRANCISVILLE, LA (WAFB) - An elementary school teacher was released from jail Monday morning after posting bond related to allegations she yelled at, kicked and slapped a first grade student.

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office reported Chanel Lemelle, 31, of Baton Rouge, turned herself in to authorities after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She is charged with cruelty to a juvenile. Her bond was set at $20,000.

Lemelle is a teacher at Bains Lower Elementary in St. Francisville. Deputies said they met with West Feliciana Parish School Board officials on Jan. 27, 2015 to discuss claims that an incident happened.

They added the warrant was issued as a result of the investigation, which included witness statements, school video surveillance and an interview with the victim by Child Advocacy Services.

Investigators stated Lemelle, her attorney and a bond agent arrived at the jail around 10 a.m. They added she was booked and immediately bonded out.
