DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Police reported a motorcycle officer seriously injured in a collision with a car that turned in front of him Monday evening has died.

James Foster, 39, of Denham Springs, died Tuesday afternoon. He was a motorcycle officer with the Denham Springs Police Department.

Chief Scott Jones said Foster joined the department on December 14, 2009. He just celebrated five years with DSPD.

Louisiana State Police reported Foster was responding to a wreck on I-12 near Denham Springs just before 6 p.m. on Monday when he was involved in a crash.

Tpr. Jared Sandifer with LSP said Foster was headed south on O'Neal when an elderly woman driving a 2008 Honda Accord in the opposite direction made a left turn in front of Foster and his motorcycle hit the car.

Foster was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge where he succumbed to his injuries at 3:36 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver of the car in Monday's crash was cited for failure to yield turning left at an intersection.
