GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A garbage truck driver says a raccoon caused him to hit a light pole and severely damage his truck.

Police say they responded to the accident in the parking lot in the 1400 block of Airline Highway on Christmas Eve.  The driver told them he was backing up after unloading a garbage container when a large raccoon jumped in his lap landing on his chest and legs. The driver says he was so terrified that he tried to stand up in the cab to get the raccoon off of him and when he did he stepped on the gas causing the truck to strike a light pole.

The truck was severely damaged and unable to drive.

The driver says he jumped out of the truck and the raccoon crawled out behind him and ran away.

Police jokingly say there is a warrant out for the raccoon's arrest.
