PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said the man accused in a shooting that left one dead and another badly wounded surrendered to them hours after the incident.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said Kevin Sheppard, 23, of Prairieville was booked on the following charges after turning himself in:

First-degree murder

Attempted first-degree murder

Carrying of a firearm by a convicted felon

Illegal use of weapons

Illegal carrying of weapons

Deputies said Sheppard was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Lewis Sanchez, 22, of Denham Springs. He is also accused of shooting Joshua Perez, 18, of Gonzales. Detectives said he was seriously wounded. They reported the shooting happened on Josh Brown Road in Prairieville on Wednesday around 2 a.m.

According to reports, the three were sitting in a parked vehicle with three other men after stopping to buy drugs. Investigators said an argument broke out. They added witnesses told them Sheppard pulled out a gun and started shooting, despite not being directly involved in the argument.

Sheppard's record includes 13 prior arrests and a conviction for principal to simple robbery in Lafayette. He was sentenced in October 2011 to three years of probation in that incident.
