BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A former employee with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, who was convicted of stealing more than $1 million from the state's Medicaid program, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Deborah Loper was working as an accountant for DHH at the time of the theft.
Officials said she gambled away a lot of the money she stole.
The Office of the Louisiana Attorney General said half of Loper's sentence was suspended.
