Former Pointe Coupee Sheriff passes away
POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Former Pointe Coupee Sheriff Paul Raymond Smith passed away early Friday morning, officials confirm.
Smith, who was 55-years-old, died of natural causes and was pronounced dead at a California hospital. We're told he was there visiting his son for the holiday.
Smith served as sheriff of Pointe Coupee Parish from 1995 until 2007. He retired from law enforcement after being defeated in the 2007 election by Beauregard "Bud" Torres.
