CENTRAL, LA (WAFB) - An alert postal worker in Central is credited for saving a home that was on fire Tuesday.

The Central Fire Department was called to the house in the 6300 block of Lindsey Neal at 1:44 p.m. The fire was under control within 20 minutes.

The alert postal worker called 911 to report smoke coming from the home. "Had she not done so, in just a few more minutes, the fire would have been through the roof and the home would have been a total loss," said Derek Glover, Central Fire Department.

The home interior suffered heat, smoke and water damage, but the structure was saved.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross was called to help the displaced family.
